My 13 Favorite Taylor Swift Songs

Taylor Swift is definitely one of the 12 women (almost) any gay man would sleep with, but I’ve always been a fan of her music, too. Her song lyrics have always spoken to me, that’s why I wrote the 12 Most Tweetable Taylor Swift Lyrics. For you readers here, I thought I’d share my favorite Taylor Swift songs. Like my favorite Celine Dion songs, Taylor was very difficult to narrow down.

I considered only ten, but since Taylor’s lucky number is 13, these are my 13 Favorite Taylor Swift songs.

Visiting the Hospital(s)

In the past few weeks I’ve been inside three hospitals. I haven’t been to the hospital this many times since I was a child. I’ve visited almost every hospital in the area and have grown familiar with the layout of all.

shooting pain text message

On a Wednesday afternoon, I received a text message. D started having a shooting pain in his right side while he was at work. He finished the day and came home uncomfortable but not necessarily in pain. When I was younger, I had appendicitis. It hurt very badly and when I woke up in pain neither of my parents were home. After vomiting and fever at home, we ended up in the hospital. I didn’t end up needing surgery. After a normal night, D was still uncomfortable. I took to WebMD to look up the symptoms of appendicitis because I assume most pain in the right side is appendix related. Continue reading

Even More Women Almost Every Gay Man Would Sleep With

Over at Thought Catalog I recently wrote about The 12 Women (Almost) Any Gay Man Would Sleep With. These women included Blake Lively mostly to get closer to Ryan Reynolds – One of the many famous Ryans in my life, Beyoncé because duh, and Taylor Swift because I really want her to write a song about me. You can check out the rest of the other women over at Thought Catalog (and check out the comments because wow), but these are just a few more women that I think most gay men (mostly me) might consider crossing the fence for. For at least one night. Continue reading

My Favorite Sarah Palin Quotes

It’s true. I’m a Sarah Palin fan. I’m not a fan of her politically. I’m a fan of her hilarious personality. When asked about my feelings on Palin, I usually respond, “I think she’s a fascinating idiot.” I’m also a huge Tina Fey fan, so it’s required to love Sarah, too. I recently finished reading Palin’s first book, Going Rogue (one of 24 books I’ve read in 2013) and I compiled a list of my favorite quotes that she didn’t actually say in 12 Most Inspiring Things Sarah Palin Never Said. But for you mavericks here, you betcha these are my favorite stupid things Sarah Palin has said at one point or another. Continue reading

Books I’ve Read in 2013: Ryan’s Book Club

At the beginning of 2013, I made a resolution of sorts. Speaking with a close friend, she shared that she had made a goal to read at least six books in the New Year. I immediately decided to steal her idea. Knowing I had more time on my hands than she did, I also doubled it. I thought that 12 books would be a great goal. That would only leave me pressured to read one book every month.

Speaking with another friend about this goal, she encouraged me to read as much as possible since being fired. I realized how much time I had on my hands, and she reminded me that I may never have this much time to read ever again. So I embraced my goal with abandon. By March, I had already met my goal of 12 books. Six months of unemployment will allow you a lot of time to read. Reading is a great way to avoid writing.

I managed to clear off a few items from my Amazon wish list and I knew I could do even better, upping my goal to 24 books. Now, here we are four months into 2013 and I have completed my 24th book. These are the books that I’ve completed so far. Continue reading

Whiskey is Confusing

A year or so ago, I became really confused by whiskey. This may sound strange, but all of a sudden it seemed like I was finding references to whiskey everywhere. It started with a song by Carrie Underwood called, “Wine After Whiskey.” This song left me wondering if whiskey was a good thing or a bad thing, not to mention asking every single one of my friends what they thought. Soon after, John Mayer released a song called “Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey” and left me more confused than ever. I’ve also ran into a few other whiskey references that I needed to explore.

I’ve never been much of a drinker and can’t say that I have much personal experience with whiskey. Perhaps that is why it’s all so confusing for me.

Answers to Your Burning Questions

If you’re anything like me, you ask Google a lot of questions on a daily basis. A few days ago I had to ask Google, “who is Margaret Thatcher?” Today it was “do seagulls explode when you give them Alka Seltzer?” I also recently googled the correct spelling of “perseverance” because I worried a friend’s fresh tattoo was spelled incorrectly. Even though my search queries are strange, it’s comforting to know that on a daily basis the search queries that allow people to find this very blog are just as strange. These are just a few of my favorite search queries that have been used to find my blog. Continue reading

Learning the Definition of Cruising

As I’ve mentioned before (in Confessions of a Teenage Catfish), it took quite a few years before I would grasp the intricacies of the homosexual language. There would be many words along the way that I had never thought of in the way they were intended. It often led to sticky situations that I was never quite sure how I got myself into. This was one of those times. This is how I learned the word “cruise” in all of its forms.

My definition of “cruise” was pretty dictionary standard, or at least I thought it was. If you say “Cruise” to me, I respond, “Tom.” If you say “cruising” to me, I say, “Huey Luis and Gwyneth Paltrow.” Then there’s the ships that have had so much trouble lately that Regis and Kathie Lee used to sing obnoxiously about. Then there’s moving at a comfortable pace. “Cruise” is a complicated word like most in the English language that have multiple meanings but the same spelling. I had no idea what I was getting myself into when I casually used the word. Continue reading

Being a Man at an NKOTBSB Concert

For most of my life gender hasn’t really ever mattered. But when I think about it, throughout my life I’ve run into situations where being a male has made things a little bit different. Being the only male invited to baby showers is a unique experience. When I was younger, I was told I couldn’t stay overnight with all the girls. These moments were a little strange… but mostly awkward. When I volunteered to go to see an NKOTBSB concert, I really hadn’t anticipated having a penis as making me stand out from the crowd. I was wrong. Continue reading
